STCOC Education Committee Meeting ** Special Location **
The STCOC Education Committee strives to bring our community and schools together by acting as a liaison between the business and education community. This committee provides volunteers the opportunity to connect with and give back to our local area schools through programs such as the New Teacher's Welcome Breakfast and the Great American Teach-In.
For our September meeting we will be touring The Teaching Tools Store
The Teaching Tools Store provides free school supplies year-round to economically disadvantaged students attending Hillsborough County Public Schools designated as Title I (federal designation that signifies 60% or more of the students in the school qualify for the free and reduced lunch program). In Hillsborough County, 62% of the 266 public and charter schools (164) are deemed Title I. The Store currently serves 140 Title I schools. The Teaching Tools Store is a real ?brick and mortar? store housed in the home of the Hillsborough Education Foundation at 2306 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL. The Store is managed and operated by the Foundation and staffed by a fleet of volunteers who operate teacher check-in and check-out processes, stock shelves and sort donations. The Store could not run as efficiently or effectively without the help of our dedicated volunteers. Teachers shop monthly collecting on average $200 or more in free supplies to bring back to their classrooms. The store is open throughout the school year so a teacher can acquire nearly $2,000 in free school supplies throughout the school year.
